Smucker Releases Campaign Finance Reports to Public
As promised, Lloyd Smucker, Republican candidate for State Senator in the 13th District of Pennsylvania, today released his first campaign finance report and placed it on his website, www.ElectSmucker.com, for public viewing. (To see the report, click here)
The report shows nearly 200 contributors to his effort and, in all, the campaign reported more than $253,000 of contributions, in-kind contributions and investments from the candidate. The money raised has been used for a variety of campaign purposes, including local grassroots efforts, direct mail, website development, broadcast television, radio, posters, handouts and more.
“The outpouring of support from so many people has been humbling,” said Smucker. “I think that since I started this campaign as an outsider – and without the political base that comes from a career in politics like some of my opponents have – we have achieved something tremendous.”
In a surprise to many, Smucker has contributed to his own campaign efforts. About this personal commitment, he explained, “I’m a businessman. In the business world, you don’t ask someone to invest in something that you won’t invest in yourself. That’s why I started the ball rolling with an early pledge to invest $80,000 of my own money, and counted that figure in my original fundraising announcement.”
When the campaign for State Senator began, many political insiders in the 13th District estimated that it would cost approximately $250,000. Smucker’s report shows him already above that amount, with two weeks left until Election Day.
“The more people hear my message of bringing real-world business sense and conservative Republican principles to Harrisburg, the more they have come forward to support the campaign both financially and as volunteers,” concluded Smucker. “We aren’t going to stop working until Election Day.”
The Smucker campaign also received six contributions from political action committees. The Pennsylvania Association of Realtors contributed $1,000 in reaction to the Lancaster County Association of Realtor’s endorsement of Smucker; two weeks ago at a candidate forum in Manheim Township, Smucker told attendees that this contribution was expected. Unexpectedly, five other political action committees contributed a total of $500 after that event.
